Just because it's Monday, you don't have to stay at home...
I might try to summarize the best viewing options for the Perseid meteor showers (which are peaking tonight). IF you're up late and the sky is clear, the best time to see it see 'em is between midnight and dawn.

MON 8/11
5:30pm
"Christmas in August"
at Rabb Lecture Hall, Boston Public Library, 700 Boylston St, Boston (Copley Sq)
FREE
More free Xmas movies -- with a Muppet twist! Tonight's scheduled films are "The Muppet Christmas Carol" preceded by "Muppet Family Christmas" and "Emmet Otter's Jug Band Christmas" (also w/ Muppets).
MON 8/11
7pm
The Princess Bride "Quote-Along"
at Coolidge Corner Theatre, 290 Harvard St, Brookline
$9
Millions of people often quote this movie, this will be hundreds of people quoting it at the same time with you. Without a doubt, this will always be a timeless classic as a faithful recreation of screenwriter William Goldman's novel. Comedy, romance, and action. Perfect casting. Good guys, bad guys, and those in between including unusually large rodents.
With all of the sing-alongs they've done, it seems this is the first quote-along at the Coolidge. Henri Mazza of the legendary Alamo Drafthouse has come from Austin to host tonight's festivities. There'll be pre-show contests, audience participation, props, and who knows what else... Some subtitles will appear at certain points for maximum participation.
MON 8/ 11
Apollo Sunshine (11pm), Viva Viva (10pm), Steve Brodsky (9:15pm), Doomstar (8:30pm)
at Great Scott, 1222 Comm Ave, Allston
$10
Apollo Sunshine goes from an opening slot at
Benefit for Spare Change Magazine
Advance tix are available, and there's no doubt in my mind it should sell out. (What's up, Boston? It looks like there are tickets still available...)
MON 8/11
9:30pm
Bitter: Sweet, Matters & Dunaway
at Middle East - Upstairs, 472 Mass Ave, Cambridge (Central Sq)
$10 / 18+
Bitter:Sweet is really quite good even if the term "trip-hop" might turn you off a bit -- they're also a fave on my old radio station of choice (KCRW). There's a good chance Bitter: Sweet will perform with some kind of band tonight. And local rocktronica guys Matters & Dunaway are known to put on a good show as well.
