MON 12/28: Folk, Rock

Yeah, yeah, yeah... I'll be back on track soon. It's difficult to type while mom is constantly offering cookies and sweets. (I know. Things could be worse.)

MON 12/28

"A Tribute to the 1990s"
at Club Passim, 47 Palmer St, Cambridge (Harvard Sq)

Feat: Ryan Fitzsimmons, Bridget Matros, Bethel Steele, Danielle Doyle, Sarah Green w/ Andy Cambria, Mark Stepakoff, others

About 17 follky acts are each going to do a song from the decade. They'll cover the bases from Pearl Jam to Sinead O'Connor to EMF to Billy Ray Cyrus to Tom Waits to Bush, Counting Crows and more.

MON 12/28

Archelon, Shore Leave, Girlfriends, Streight Angular
at Middle East - Upstairs, 472 Mass Ave, Cambridge (Central Sq)
$8 / 18+

Why has it taken about three times for me to get into Girlfriends? I feel like I was listening to a different band on the wrong MySpace page (which could happen to me). This is rockin' stuff! With Streight Angular, much of the songs are pumping and churning under a pleasant veil of fuzz and are steady and catchy underneath. Things get a bit progressive with the next two bands, but Shore Leave put together some cool parts that kept me listening, but Archelon is a little 'too cool for school' (imho). Also really well played, but something didn't do it for me. (I think they're playing last).
