TUES 8/26: Bowling, Mixer, Folk

bowling tourney, tonight at milky way
It not just because I stuffed free food & booze there last week -- but I'd consider eating at Bella Luna/Milky Way if you're thinking of going tonight.

I love that block of JP in general, within a block there's Brendan Behan Pub, Alchemist Lounge, El Oriental de Cuba, Tacos El Charro... So many coices, and that's just off the top of my head.

TUES 8/26

9pm
Bowling Tournament
at Milky Way Lounge, 403 Centre St, Jamaica Plain
FREE / 21+

It's not just Monday this week -- the Milky Way is also having free bowling on Tuesday this week for a Coors-sponsored tournament. The prizes will likely be Coors items -- and maybe there might be a free beer or two... (You never know!)

I was there last night, and there were several posters for this candlepin tourney. Your team might not get signed up before it fills up, but you're sure to have a good time. You could still pick up some Coors promotional (liquid?) material...

The free bowling continues after the tourney for those who don't need to be alert on Wednesday morning.

Some details:

- 4 people to a team
- up to 12 teams can play
- first come, first serve
- no advance sign-up
DJ Andrew from Pants Yell! is also starting a regular DJ night ("...And Don't The Kids Just Love It?"). His guest DJ's this month are DJ Casey (Pants Yell! drummer) and DJ Mark Robinson (of Teenbeat Records).

TUES 8/26

6pm to 10pm
NetParty Boston Free Launch Party
at The Estate, 1 Boylston Pl, Boston (The Alley / Boston Common)
FREE w/ RSVP! ($20 w/o RSVP)

I don't necessarily enjoy "young professional" mixers, so wouldn't think of going to this if it wasn't free -- but that shouldn't stop you! There will be complimentary apps from 6pm to 7pm... The mixing continues until 8pm, then the music gets loud for dancing. (I have a feeling they'll send you a lot of email if you sign up...)

Update: Jeff from NetParty says they don't send a lot of emails. Also the music won't get loud during the social time, but I assume it'll get loudER if you stay long enough...

TUES 8/26

8pm
Vagabond Van
at Toad, 1912 Mass Ave, Cambridge (Porter Sq)
FREE

Greg Klyma & Tom Bianchi are ending their August residency with a bang -- and a thud and all sorts of musical sounds. Besides their guitar and bass, they've got keyboards and drums to round out the basic band. Then they're inviting a load of people to jam with them and they're basically playing from about 8pm to closing. Should be a killer night of rootsy goodness!
