FRI 1/7: Theatre & Rock

Things were going well last night -- then I laid down on the couch for a rest. Snafu'ed! Here's something at least.

I'm not sure if I'm sold on the original "Benson Interruption" comedy exercise, so who knows how it will turn out tonight at Great Scott where comedian Brett McCabe hosts the "McCabe Interruption" at the weekly comedy showcase. If you go, find a copy of the Weekly Dig and rip out page 45 for the 2-for-1 coupon.

As far as cheap fun on Saturday:

This is the annual weekend for the marathon reading of Moby Dick in New Bedford... A couple guys from NRBQ are rockin' the Rosebud ($5)... There is lots of guitar at Atwoods Tavern (Free)... Oh, crap -- the indie-folk cup runneth over at the Lizard Lounge.

I also like the evening shows at the Middle East (Upstairs) and the Plough & Stars...

There's a bean party in Arlington ($5)... And something like a French bean party in Back Bay ($10)...

--------------------------------------------------------------

FRI 1/7

8pm to 10pm
MIT Theater Arts Workshop: "Prometheus Bound"
at Kresge Auditorium, 48 Mass Ave, Cambridge (MIT campus)
FREE

Normally, a MIT workshop for a new multi-media adaptation of an ancient Greek play might only be interesting to me and a handful of others.

Then I found out that the production is a collaboration with American Repertory Theater to open at Club Oberon in March and that the music was composed by Serj Tankian (ex-System of a Down). It's just a workshop, but it could be a cool preview.

FRI 1/7

Acaro (Midnight), Razors In The Night (11pm), Buried In Leather (10pm), Tijuana Sweetheart (9pm)
at Church, 69 Kilmarnock St, Boston (Fenway)
$8 / 21+

Bands go loud, hard, and fast in a benefit show For The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

FRI 1/7

9:30pm
Lady, Bookkeeper, Alto Verde, The Diamond Mines
at O'Brien's, 3 Harvard St, Allston
$8 / 21+

Bands are doing it punky/indie just for the heck of it.

FRI 1/7

9:30pm
Muy Cansado, Naked on Roller Skates, Riding Shotgun
at Rosebud Bar & Grill (behind Diner), 381 Summer St, Somerville (Davis Sq)
$5 / 21+

It's mostly classic-Boston post-punk style and delightfully crunchy indie-pop at a cool, hidden pub in Davis Square.

Uhh, yeah, there was no page 45 in the Digg this week and the people at Great Scott where totally not honoring any sort of 2-for-1 deal!

Hey G-P,

This is how I screwed up. The kiosk I used on Thursday still had the previous double-issue of the Dig, which did have a 2-for-1 coupon on page 45.
