MON 1/10: Theatre, Film, Trivia, Rock

A movie about an extremely difficult relay race will screen at various theaters across the country tomorrow. There's a pre-party at South End Athletic Company tonight (6:30pm to 10pm) where there'll be giveaways, drinks, and a pair of tickets will be raffled.

--------------------------------------------------------------

MON 1/10

7pm
Orfeo Group, "Paper City Phoenix": Reading/Workshop
at Mr. Dooley's, 77 Broad St, Boston (Financial District)
FREE / 21+

About a half-dozen actors will give the first public performance of this new play about a disappearance, a lightning bolt, and the Internet by local playwright Walt McGough -- except they won't be moving around much and there won't be a set.

The Orfeo Group often presents cheap/free Shakespeare in the summer, and they have been doing this series where people can have a few drinks and/or a bite while enjoying an early stage of the creative process.

MON 1/10

7:30pm
"Waltz with Bashir": Screening
at Bldg 4, Room 231, 182 Memorial Drive (Rear), Cambridge (MIT campus)
FREE

The director of this animated feature is an exploration of his war experience as an Israeli soldier in the early '80s. We follow him trying to piece together his memories of what happened.

Besides checking out a Oscar-nominated film, there should be free pizza and refreshments.

MON 1/10

8pm to 10pm
The Big Quiz Thing
at Club Oberon, 2 Arrow St, Cambridge (Harvard Sq)
$10

If you're really think you're a pub trivia bad-ass, why don't you put your money where that body-part-with-the-useless-information is... Leave it to New Yorkers to make turn trivia into a multi-media production...

A team will win the grand prize of $200. The maximum team size is 8. I know a guy whose team did win, and he kicks ass at trivia, so be ready for serious fun.

MON 1/10

9:30pm
Major Stars, Girlfriends, Bugs & Rats
at Charlie's Kitchen, 10 Eliot St, Cambridge (Harvard Sq)
$5 / 21+

As you can see by the flyer above, this is the second attempt for this show that was cancelled a couple weeks ago due to snow. There's been a slight line-up change.

Instead of Neptune, the fabulous fuzz-pop garage rockers Girlfriends will be the meat in this tasty yet explosive sandwich. The Major Stars will cap the night with a psychedelic blast; you'll need a hat even if it is cold, because your mind will be blown. Bugs & Rats get you in the mood via their thick, punky noise.
