Sneak Peek -- SAT 9/5

It's a good day to hang out in Somerville. I do it all the time, but there usually isn't a music fest and an international movie screening...

Attn e-list subscribers: I've decided that I'm sending something out by midnight. Let's get back on track...

--------------------------------------------------------------

SAT 9/5 & SUN 9/6

9am to ???
Annual 100 Innings of Baseball
at Adams Field, One Merrymount Parkway, Quincy (near Wollaston T)
FREE to watch

The contest will continue with no breaks until 100 complete innings are played (usually Sunday afternoon).

That's a long baseball game.

I bet Curt Schilling will be there for the beginning and for a while until his wife freaks out about being in the sun.

SAT 9/5 to SUN 9/6

Various Times
Gloucester Schooner Festival
around Gloucester Harbor
FREE

Saturday -- 10am to 10pm
Sunday -- 9am to 5pm

Yes, some boats are racing out there, but mainly a bunch of beautiful ships out there. And lots of festival-type stuff on land like free admission to the Gloucester Maritime Heritage Center.

There's a fireworks display over the harbor on Saturday around 9:15pm after the "Boat Parade of Lights" beginning at 7:30pm.

SAT 9/5 to MON 9/8

Noon to Midnight-ish
"Cutting Edge of the Campfire Festival"
at Club Passim, 47 Palmer St, Cambridge (Harvard Sq)
$10 per day / $25 whole weekend

The classic club is jam-packed with wall-to-wall folky goodness. Performers will sing some songs solo as well as join together for impromptu collaborations -- just like a... campfire sing-along! But better than most campfires.

Saturday schedule:

Noon -- Mayfly, Matt & Shannon Heaton, Sean Smith, Eric McDonald & Rebecca Wudarski
1:30pm -- Ezekiel's Wheels
2:15pm -- The Salt Wives
3pm -- Rachael Sage, Connor Garvey, Suzie Brown
4:30pm -- Kate Klim
5:15pm -- Marie Moreshead, Danielle Doyle, Beth Colegrove, Rhianna Larocque
6:45pm -- Old Man Luedeke
7:30pm -- Kristin Cifelli, Cariad Harmon, Pamela Means, Vikesh Kapoor
9pm -- Blue Moose & The Unbuttoned Zippers
9:45pm -- Noam Weinstein, Rose Polenzani, Sylvie Lewis, Margaret Glaspy
11:15pm -- Fiddlefoxx
SAT 9/5

2pm to 6pm
FossFest 2009
at Saxton Foss Park, about 240 Broadway, Somerville (East Somerville)
FREE

Besides the awesome music (The Diamond Mines and Audrey Ryan are two of my faves), there will be arts and crafts vendors.

Please think about bringing a food donation (or giving some money) to benefit the Somerville Homeless Coalition.

Schedule:
2pm -- The Brooklyns
2:50pm -- They Will Hate Us
3:40pm -- The Diamond Mines
4:30pm -- Audrey Ryan
5:20pm -- Concord Ballet Orchestra Players
SAT 9/5

6:30pm
"Under the Stars": International Movie Nights
Feat: "O Ano em Que Meus Pais Saíram de Férias (The Year my Parents Went on Vacation)"
behind the Old Fire Station, 165 Broadway, Somerville (East Somerville)
FREE

For three Saturday nights in a row, your staycation could be a trip to Brazil (9/5), Italy (9/12), or Argentina (9/19).

The themed party (Brazilian music and -- I assume -- food vendors) starts at 6:30pm. The movie starts at 8pm, and it's a highly acclaimed, award-winning film in Brazil.

SAT 9/5

Super Time Pilot (11:30pm), Jaggery (10:30pm), Walter Sickert & The Army Of Broken Toys (9:30pm), Mehran (9pm)
at TT the Bear's Place, 10 Brookline St, Cambridge (Central Sq)
$10 / 18+

Super Time Pilot is the softer side of Robbie Roadsteamer. Lots of wild music and laughs.

SAT 9/5

9:30pm
Tony the Bookie Orchestra, Thick Shakes, Indian Style
at PA's Lounge, 345 Somerville Ave, Somerville (Union Sq)
$7 -- 21+ / $10 -- 18+

Tony the Bookie Orchestra record release show. When I think of TtBO, I think kick-ass, country-tinged, psych-rock. Thick Shakes carry the garage-rock torch. Indian Style are a acoustic-guitar singing duo.

SAT 9/5

10pm
Three Legged Fox, Dave Crespo & the After Party
at McGann's Pub, 197 Portland St, Boston (West End / North Station)
$10 / 21+

Reggae-rockers Three Legged Fox from PA are joined local pop/rock Dave Crespo & the After Party.

SAT 9/5 & SUN 9/6

Free Museum Admission for BofA Customers
at Museum of Fine Arts, 465 Huntington Ave, Boston
at Harvard Museum of Natural History, 26 Oxford St, Cambridge
at DeCordova Museum and Sculpture Park, 51 Sandy Pond Rd, Lincoln
at Danforth Museum of Art, 123 Union Ave, Framingham
FREE with Bank of America debit/credit card

If you're a Bank of America customer, you probably have complaints -- but you can go to museums for free... These are the 4 closest participating institutions to Boston.

(If you read your statements, you might have known about this... Also weekends of: 10/3, 11/7, 12/5, and 1/2)
