I'm not afraid to admit that I was late in hearing French Kicks, but I started with the most recent album, "Two Thousand". While the diehard fans seem pissed that they've moved away from their punkier garage origins, I think it's great stuff.

I like the earlier songs, but I also enjoy the current texture and subtlety. The riffs are more developed, additional flavors lend extra color, and I dig the drummer adding a lot of interesting rhythmic ideas.

They might have hit the scene around the time of The Strokes and The Walkmen, but I don't know what people expect beyond some good tunes played well... French Kicks offer quality pop-rock that sits well next to Band of Horses -- and yes, I'll say it -- Radiohead's "In Rainbows" and Snow Patrol.

The three openers -- Bon Savants, Harris and Aloud -- are excellent local bands who all offer something different yet make a complementary line-up. A good way to check out new music is to listen for free.

My friends at Going.com put on a free Bang Camaro show a month (or so) ago, and it looks to be a monthly series co-sponsored with Miller. All you have to do is RSVP here -- and register if you're not a member at Going yet. (It's a event-oriented social networking site that will send you as many emails as you decide. I even have a 'group' on the site.) Hurry up and sign up if you want to go.

I'll be there, so please say "hello" if yout think you recognize me...

BONUS:
If you haven't seen this yet, you must watch this hilarious Jimmy Kimmel clip, "I'm F***ing Ben Affleck"!
