SUN 11/8: Drawing & Lots of Music

In case I don't have another shot to post, here is some Sunday cheapness...

--------------------------------------------------------------

SUN 11/8

2:30pm to 5:30pm
Dr. Sketchy's Anti-Art School Cabaret: Life Drawing Class
at Great Scott, 1222 Comm Ave, Allston
$8 / 18+

Feat: Molly Crabapple, Johnny Blazes, Madge of Honor (aka M. Hanora)

The mother of Dr. Sketchy is in town, so it should be fun...

In honor of the release of Molly Crabapple's new book, we're having a very special Dr. Sketchy session with Molly herself running the show. Johnny Blazes and Madge of Honor will model and play out scenes from the book.
Anyone can give it a shot. From first-timers to professionals, all are welcome to have some art fun with no one to tell you what to do.
A couple of tips: Come on time to get a seat up front. Keep it small so others can crowd in around you. Bring your stuff in a milk crate so you have something to sit on or put your stuff on. (we have lots of seats, but more is helpful) There will be some fancy paper for you to buy if you want.
You're not going to find a cheaper art class -- mainly because it's not a class. Just go and have some fun and a few beers.

SUN 11/8

4pm
Plough's 40th Anniversary Party
at Plough & Stars, 912 Mass. Ave, Cambridge (Central Sq)
FREE

Feat: Michael Tarbox, The Raging Teens, The Konks, Triple Thick, Frank Drake & The Bagboys, Jay Allen, Stump The Undertaker's Organ, others

Do you really need more of an excuse to celebrate? The weekend will be stacked with awesome musicians who have frequented that corner of the room and various stools around the bar...

SUN 11/8

6pm
Dan Deacon, Big Digits, Nuclear Power Plants, The Craters
at Pozen Center, 621 Huntington Ave, Boston (MassArt, enter on Evans Way)
$10 / All Ages

It should be a wild experience when Dan Deacon is involved, and Big Digits bring the party wherever they go.. Stay at home if you're not ready to give yourselves up to new sounds and goofy dancing. People will be in costumes, and people might blow your mind a little bit.

SUN 11/8

8:30pm
Boston Blues Challenge Semi-Finals #2
at Johnny D's, 17 Holland St, Somerville (Davis Sq)
$7

Feat: Geezer, Alley Blues, Mike Crandall Band, 2120 South Michigan Avenue w/ Sweet Willie D, Sit Down Baby

The Boston Blues Society is hosting "Blues Challenge 2009" with 10 bands competing for the blues finals next Sunday to represent New England at the "International Blues Challenge" in Memphis. The first 5 bands played last week, and capable set of bands give their best 20 minutes for what might be the equivalent of "American Blues Idol".

SUN 11/8

9pm
The Copyrights, The Fake Boys, Billy Raygun, New Warden
at Great Scott, 1222 Comm Ave, Allston
$8 / 18+

It's a good punky lineup, including The Copyrights from Illinois.

SUN 11/8

10pm
Boston Urban Ceilidh
at Club Passim, 47 Palmer St, Cambridge (Harvard Sq)
$10

Feat: Laura Cortese, Hanneke Cassel, Matt and Shannon Heaton, Jaclyn O'Riley, others

This looks like a crazy Sunday night Celtic hoe-down with a live band and dance callers. If you don't know what you're doing, people will help you out. (I guess it's pronounced "kay-lee"...)

This is a clip from last year at Passim.
