MON 9/6: Fest, Folk, Film, Circus, Rock

Isn't Labor Day about sleeping in...?

I'll try to get the whole thing together. Maybe. Ah, probably not. Have a happy Labor Day!

--------------------------------------------------------------

MON 9/6

Noon to 6pm
Bread and Roses Heritage Festival
at Lawrence Common, about 200 Common St, Lawrence
FREE

Music, food, culture, activities, etc

Feat: Bread & Puppet Theater (4:45pm), Grupo Fantasia (3:45pm), Shira Erlichman (3:15pm), Alastair Moock (2:30pm), more

MON 9/6

Noon to Midnight-ish (FRI: 6pm start)
Campfire Festival
at Club Passim, 47 Palmer St, Cambridge (Harvard Sq)
$10 per day / $25 all 4 days

The fourth day of folkish music. There is no open fire, so you can bring marshmallows but they won't burnt into crispy goo at Club Passim. The good news is that they now serve beer and wine after 50+ years.

Schedule:

Noon -- Rob Laurens, Joel Ninesling, Lloyd Thayer, Joe Kowan
1:30pm -- Hightower Smith, Reed Waddle, Rob Morsberger, Steve Hartmann
3pm -- Rod Picott & Amanda Shires, Paul Janovitz, Marc Silver
4:15pm -- Gillian Grassie
5pm -- Barnaby Bright
5:45pm -- Tri
6:30pm -- Matt Heaton & The Electric Heaters
7:15pm -- Alec Spiegelman, Ben Davis, Audrey Ryan, Sylvie Lewis
8:45pm -- Tamsin Wilson, Rhainna Larocque, Jennah Bell
10pm -- Jimmy Ryan, Jabe Beyer, David Johnston, Ed Romanoff
When several performers are listed at the same time, it will usually be old-time "campfire" style where each takes the lead for a song or two.

MON 9/6

Double Feature:
"The Manchurian Candidate" (1:45pm, 7pm)
"North By Northwest" (4:15pm, 9:30pm)
at Brattle Theatre, 40 Brattle St, Cambridge (Harvard Sq)
$9.75

Don't let the remake from a few years ago spoil your enjoyment of "The Manchurian Candidate", which is top-notch thriller with Frank Sinatra acting his ass off.

Any Hitchcock film deserves attention, and this may be my favorite of his collaborations with Cary Grant.

MON 9/6

6pm
"Internationally Famous Flaming Deathwish Itinerant Family Circus"
at Davis Square Plaza, about 35 Davis Sq, Somerville
Donations encouraged

I couldn't corroborate this info I found from a single source, I do think circus folk from Providence will be there:
Come one come all to see the first performance of the soon-to-be Internationally Famous Flaming Deathwish Itinerant Family Circus, lead by Mr. Crazy Lady and her trained fleas!

Hailing from the greater Providence area (extending as far north as Baffin Island, and as far south as Easter Island, though performers are neither puffins nor catholics), Flaming Deathwish will perform a number of simultaneously death-defying and family-friendly stunts, in series and parallel.

Boston is their first stop on a nationwide schoolbus tour on which they aim to inspire chaos and liberation at every possible juncture.

Flaming Deathwish will be joined by the ever expanding Fantastic Non-Stick Antiperspirant Russian Nonsemble, lead by siberian ex-patriot Fluffsky the spectacled polar bear.
Hey, if you're in the area...
