SUN 3/8: Art, Jazz, Dance, Drag etc

Traniwreck, at Milky Way Lounge
So I've really made progress to catch up and be on the ball, but I'm not quite there yet. Maybe in a day or two. Cross the fingers...

Also: Anyone who knows me, knows I love the ladies -- so Happy International Women's Day!

--------------------------------------------------------------

SUN 3/8

2:30pm to 5:30pm
Dr. Sketchy's Anti-Art School Cabaret: Life Drawing Class
at Great Scott, 1222 Comm Ave, Allston
$7 / 18+

Think about it -- you feel like being creative and drawing a little bit, but you think most classes might be too serious for you (and probably cost more than $7). You can't find a more relaxed situation where no one will judge your work. The models will do some art school poses, but they'll have some fun with it... You'll have fun with it... There's a full bar... Maybe you'll win a prize...

A couple of tips: Come on time to get a seat up front. Keep it small so others can crowd in around you. Bring your stuff in a milk crate so you have something to sit on or put your stuff on. (we have lots of seats, but more is helpful) There will be some fancy paper for you to buy if you want.
This month's models are: Dirty Nellie & Kit Wilde of Big Moves.

SUN 3/8

3pm
Duke Ellington's Sacred Concerts
w/ Trinity Choirs & Berklee Concert Jazz Orchestra
at Trinity Church, 206 Clarendon St, Boston (Copley Sq)
$5 and up

This is what church should be -- Duke Ellington music! There's no need to be spiritual to enjoy his "Sacred Concerts". I've listened to and loved much of the Duke's compositions and performances, and there's nary a bad note in the whole bunch. We should get rid of "Star Spangled Banner" and choose an Ellington tune as our national anthem!

The pieces in this concert draw on three works that mix jazz, gospel, blues, spirituality, and social justice. Mix Berklee's Concert Jazz Orchestra ("the premier jazz orchestra at the college") with the choir people from Trinity Church, and you have the best post-brunch activity in Back Bay.

You can't buy tickets online anymore, but it looks like some cheap seats will still be available at the door. If you don't feel like paying $25 or $50, there are plenty of places nearby that serve Bloody Mary's, etc...

SUN 3/8

4pm
"Mozart's Requiem": Informal Performance & Discussion
at Green Street Studios, 185 Green St, Cambridge (Central Sq)
$10 Suggested Donation

I'm not really in the mood for modern dance, but maybe you are. Choreographer Nicole Pierce is in the midst of creating a dance piece for every secion of Mozart's "Requiem". You can see a couple of the sections without the full production values as well as participate (or listen) in some discussion about the piece and the creative process. "Refreshments following", so that's nice.

SUN 3/8

9:30pm
TraniWreck's Last Milky Way Hurrah
at Milky Way Lounge, 403 Centre St, Jamaica Plain
$8 / 21+
TraniWreck is an all gender, all genre, irreverent performance art cabaret/variety show... brings the best tranny/trashy drag, burlesque, dance, comedy, trashy vaudevillian mayhem, dirty lap dancing, challenging sexy political feats of gorgeousness.
I don't think I could have said it better.

Things are winding down at the old Milky Way location. There will be crazy fun when they move to the Brewery Complex, but why not have one last hurrah at the original? I was there on Wednesday and had a great time. I don't like when the cool spots that I love change, but what are you gonna do? Why not go get a lap dance from a woman or a man, then wonder which gender it was -- don't forget to tip either way! Or just enjoy the wacky debauchery from the back of the room.

Send Aliza an email with "drinks" in the subject, and you might get on the list for a free vodka drink from 42 Below (and be on the Truth Serum mailing list -- not a biggie, imho). Tell the door guy, and he might give you a drink ticket.

Expect performances from: Heywood Wakefield, Frieda Fries, Becca D'Bus, Johnny Blazes, Kielbasia, M. Hanora, Maggie & Havalah from The Femme Show, Big Moves, and more.

This is one of the last times I'll say it: free candlepin bowling from 6pm to 9pm tonight.
