THUR 6/30: Beer, Music, Fireworks

Local artist-animator Karen Aqua died in May, and the Brickbottom Gallery is exhibiting hundreds of her drawings as well as video beginning today through SUN 7/10 (except 7/3 & 7/4) from noon to 5pm.

As mentioned yesterday and in the earlier fireworks post, there will be extra-fast boat races in the Harbor from today to Monday.

THUR 6/30

7pm
"Beer Advocate's Beer Tasting Series": Cisco Brewery
at The Hideout / Durgin-Park, 340 Faneuil Hall Market Pl, Boston
FREE

If you're near Faneuil Hall tonight, I'd stop and have a couple drinks. There will be some samples from Cisco Brewery. There should be free apps and shwag.

They say you get a free glass when you buy a pint of Cisco, e.g. the tasty Whale's Tale Pale Ale.

There's another beer thing at Stoddard's Food & Ale that starts at 6pm. There's a $3 cover, but the proceeds go to a charity.

THUR 6/30

7pm to 9pm
Grupo Fantasia
at Mozart Park, about 320 Centre St, Jamaica Plain (near Jackson Sq)
FREE

It's time again for the Tito Puente Latin Music Series to bring live salsa, jazz, etc to different outdoor spaces around town.

You can do worse that hanging out and dancing in a JP park on a summer night. There are 5 more Thursday night shows with a concert at City Hall Plaza in between now and then.

THUR 6/30

NoBunny (11pm), Tampoffs (10pm), Triple Thick (9:15pm), The Party Pigs (8:30pm)
at Church, 69 Kilmarnock St, Boston (Fenway)
$10 / 18+

NoBunny is the man that fronts the band in a sorta creepy rabbit mask (and usually ensembles that Lux Interior might wear when he's on a beer-pizza-ESPN bender). The music is really great, catchy garage-rock that would be awesome fun even without the spectacle.

You'll probably get some antics anyway. Along with more punky garage-rock leading up to the finale.

THUR 6/30

The Ladybug Transistor (11:35pm), Hallelujah The Hills (10:40pm), St. Claire (9:45pm), Cotton Candy (9pm)
at TT the Bear's Place, 10 Brookline St, Cambridge (Central Sq)
$10

On the other side of the river from NoBunny, The Ladybug (Transistor) is performing. Although not quite opposites in my mind, let's say the quirky, thinking-person's indie-pop in Cambridge will provide contrasts to the Boston show.

THUR 6/30

9:15pm
Somerville Fireworks
at Trum Field, about 550 Broadway, Somerville (Magoun Sq)
FREE

Broadway closes, and it's a pretty good display (from my window, at least). Live entertainment begins at 6pm, and Booty Vortex plays at some point before 9:15pm.

The #80 & #89 buses will still take close to the festivities.

THUR 6/30

9:50pm
Extreme Sailing Series: Fireworks
at Boston Harbor (Fan Pier, North End, Eastie, etc)
FREE

I suspect the best viewing is supposed to be at Fan Pier, because that's where the Extreme Sailing races are based.

I also suspect there might be fine viewing anywhere on the Waterfront.
