THUR 7/3: Music for Independence Eve

Bill Janowitz, Tonight at Toad
I'm so close to getting the InterNETs back at home, so cross your fingers... Here's a few options for the unofficial start of the weekend. I hope to get a Sneak Peek up later today.

--------------------------------------------------------------

THUR 7/3

8:30pm to 11pm
Boston Pops Independence Day Concert & Fireworks
at Hatch Shell, Charles River Esplanade, Storrow Dr, Boston
FREE

Maybe the rain will keep the crowd size down, and I think they'll play regardless of the weather. There won't be fireworks tonight, but you might see some if close your eyes -- after a good amount of the right beverage (or whatever you like). I'm pretty sure they'll play the 1812 Overture...

THUR 7/3

The Swinedells (Midnight), The Stumbleweeds (11pm), Rocky Velvet (10pm), Nate Gibson & The Gashouse Gang (9pm)
at TT the Bear's Place, 10 Brookline St, Cambridge (Central Sq)
$10

This line-up is going to sound more like the American spirit than anything the Pops -- or friggin' Rascal Flatts -- will play tomorrow (imho). Sidle up to the bar for a domestic brew, and lean back for a big slice of rockabilly and country. WMFO's Easy Ed will make sure the mood will still rock and hop between sets.

THUR 7/3

9:30pm
You Can Be A Wesley, Captain Of Industry, Pray For Polanski
at Great Scott, 1222 Comm Ave, Allston
$8 / 18+

Two good local bands support Captain Of Industry, a punky indie-pop outfit from Dayton, Ohio -- home of Guided By Voices and The Breeders...

THUR 7/3

10pm
Bill Janovitz & Band
at Toad, 1912 Mass Ave, Cambridge (Porter Sq)
FREE

Does Bill Janowitz really need any introduction in this town? It's the final night of a 4-week residency. Start your drinking early at Toad or good luck getting in, because they might be at full capacity.
