SUN 10/12: Ocktoberfest, Art Fun, Music

Harvard Square Oktoberfest
With Columbus Day, this is like Saturday! Whoopee.

--------------------------------------------------------------

SUN 10/12

Noon to 6pm
Annual Harvard Square Oktoberfest
along JFK St, Brattle St, Mass Ave, Church St, and Charles Sq in Harvard Sq, Cambridge
FREE

I love the variety of free music at most Harvard Sq street festivals like La Tuza (noon), the Honk Parade arriving from Davis Sq with Click & Clack of "Car Talk" (1pm), Iyeoka & the Rock by Funk Tribe (2pm), a couple decent bands that I don't know from 3pm to 5pm, and the March Fourth Marching Band (5pm). If you like brass bands, New Orleans-style Hot Tamale Brass Band plays at noon in front of the Holyoke Center followed by more jazz, etc. The Club Passim Stage has a good line-up including Alastair Moock (4pm) and Mieka Pauley (5pm). Honk! Festival bands will be on a couple stages.

Let's not forget the beer gardens, food & craft vendors, family fun, and the "World's Longest Sofa" will be on Church St -- brought in the world's longest moving van...

SUN 10/12

2:30pm
Dr. Sketchy's Anti-Art School Cabaret: Life Drawing Class
at Great Scott, 1222 Comm Ave, Allston
$7 / 18+

The most fun you can have drawing in a (semi-)public place. Wilder and looser than any other art class you've been to. You won't feel so bad about your drawing skills.

A couple of tips: Come on time to get a seat up front. Keep it small so others can crowd in around you. Bring your stuff in a milk crate so you have something to sit on or put your stuff on. (we have lots of seats, but more is helpful) There will be some fancy paper for you to buy if you want.
This month's models: the women of Big Moves.

SUN 10/12

10:30pm
Dennis Brennan
at Alchemist Lounge, 435 S Huntington Ave, Jamaica Plain
FREE

A rock 'n roll party for those who have Monday off. Dennis Brennan is a musical treasure, great performer and excellent songwriter.

SUN 10/12

9:30pm
The Elephant 6 Holiday Surprise Tour
at Church, 69 Kilmarnock St, Boston (Fenway)
$10 advance / $12 day of show / 21+

For those that love the variet show/multi-media perfromance experience, a bunch of the Elephant 6 posse is traveling as a musical caravan. Members of Neutral Milk Hotel, Olivia Tremor Control, Elf Power, of Montreal, and may more will play songs from all sorts of these bands since most bands overlap members. Will they play "In the Aeroplane Over the Sea"? Chances are slim, but you never know...

It's likely you'll see a screening of a film called "Major Organ and the Adding Machine", which is also the name of an Elephant 6 band and features many of the musicians.

Music is said to be the soul of life. Without music life is so boring and unentertaining. An entertaining and funny music can give you lovely and amusing days of life. Music is one of the part of our life and we should never keep it away from ourselves.
