MON 4/25: Wine, Play, Magic, Trivia, Music

Hey, the Boston Cyberarts Festival has begun, and there are loads of weird, cool stuff on display around town.

--------------------------------------------------------------

MON 4/25

5:30pm to 7:30pm
"Squares of Somerville" Taste Fest
at Ball Square Fine Wines, 716 Broadway, Somerville (Ball Sq)
FREE / 21+

I've stopped here on Fridays for beer and wine tastings, and I usually walk out with something.

Tonight's "Squares of Somerville" fest include's vegan bites from Teele Square's True Bistro and Thai treats from Union Square's Ronnarong Tapas Bar.

MON 4/25 (and TUES 4/26)

7pm
"Little Black Topsy and the Magical White Fairy Soap"
at Central Square Theater, 450 Mass Ave, Cambridge (Central Sq)
$5 to $15 suggested donation

Live performance is blended with video to create what may be a rather twisted fairy tale about a black girl who goes on a quest to find the titular cleansing agent.

After each performance, there will be a panel discussion about the play's relevance on race and gender issues.

Feel free to give what you can, because proceeds benefit the YWCA Cambridge.

MON 4/25

7pm
Boston Skeptics in the Pub: "Magic, Mystery and the Search for Truth"
at Tommy Doyle's, 96 Winthrop St, Cambridge (Harvard Sq)
FREE

Feat: Dezrah the Strange

On his website, Dezrah's show is described as:

a 30-45 minute demonstration of "psychic" abilities that encourages critical thinking and healthy skepticism when dealing with claims of the "paranormal".
These things usually last for a couple hours, so there may be some organized discussion afterwards, then skeptical mixing -- or maybe not. Don't assume anything!

MON 4/25

8pm
Nerdnite: The Trivia Night
at Middlesex Lounge, 315 Mass Ave, Cambridge (near Central Sq)
FREE

If magic and skepticism isn't for you, there's some nerdy trivia this month instead of Nerdnite's usual presentations.

They say, "...teams will be limited to 6 people max. But if you come with more than that we expect that there will be a fair amount of new team formation as nerds mingle."

MON 4/25

9:30pm
earthquake party!, Big Eyes, The Scamps, The Clippers, Boo Radley
at Great Scott, 1222 Comm Ave, Allston
$7 / 18+

One of the Pelly Twins lives in Boston and the other in NYC. As you might expect, they put together really good shows full of noisy, punky rock and indie-pop like this one. Don't bother going if you're not ready to have a good time.

MON 4/25

10pm
Bobb Trimble's Flying Spiders, Fedavees
at ZuZu!, 474 Mass Ave, Cambridge (Central Sq)
FREE / 21+

From the stuff I've listened to, Bobb Trimble definitely has the trippy folky thing down solid. He's been doing it way before the current crop of dudes in this style (who might consider Bobb an influence). Fedavees add a fuzzy ambience to the table.
