MON 5/16: Film, Music, Karaoke

Yes, yes, yes.

I was greatly disappointed with 2 consecutive weekends of bad blogging. There will be some kind of weekend post by tomorrow morning.

--------------------------------------------------------------

MON 5/16

7pm
"Public Speaking" w/ Fran Lebowitz
at Coolidge Corner Theatre, 290 Harvard St, Brookline
$9.75 / $6.75 seniors, children

I watched this documentary with a friend who subscribes to HBO, and it was enjoyable to hear Fran Lebowitz talk about all sorts of subjects in different settings. I especially liked the witty author's thoughts on writing and New York in the '70s.

I'm not sure I would pay to see it in a theater, but Fran Lebowitz will be in attendance and presumably addressing the crowd.

MON 5/16

7pm to 11pm
Cotton Candy, America Hearts, The Sneaky Mister
at Yes.Oui.Si Space, 19 Vancouver St, Boston (between MFA & MassArt)
Donation Suggested

Mostly quirky indie-pop in a new-ish gallery space. Could be a good musical adventure.

MON 5/16

9:30pm
Gong Show Karaoke
at TT the Bear's Place, 10 Brookline St, Cambridge (Central Sq)
FREE / 18+

When you think about karaoke at a divey bar, you might imagine what goes on at Gong Show Karaoke. It's loose and casual, and they kick it up a notch with the panel of judges who may gong you in mid-song -- like the old TV show.

The point is to go and have fun and not worry about how good you are. One time I was gonged in the second half, and it wasn't bad at all. The top 2 people do win prizes like a discount on your bar tab or a pair of tix to a TT's show.

Although listed on the site as 8:30pm, the action really starts around 9:30pm.

MON 5/16

10pm
Chris Warren
at ZuZu!, 474 Mass Ave, Cambridge (Central Sq)
FREE / 21+

As one of the main dudes in Viva Viva, one of Boston's kick-ass bands, Chris Warren gets loud and rough. He played a solo gig at Middlesex Lounge with just a drummer in January; I assume it won't be as loud as usual yet still as awesome.
