SUN 6/19: Crafts, Yoga, Bacon, Performances

I saw the Stanley Cup, and it was pretty cool. Let's hope it rolls through town again.

Happy Fathers Day to all the dads out there -- whether you know it or not...

SUN 6/19

Noon until 6pm
Boston Bazaar Bizarre: Union Made Fair
at Union Sq Plaza, Somerville (nexus of Somerville Ave, Washington St, Bow St)

If you still have to buy Dad a gift, maybe you can find something out of the ordinary for him. I usually find stuff for myself at these things.

There will supposedly be demonstrations too, so maybe you can make your own gift in the future.

SUN 6/19

2pm to 4pm
Sunday Fun in the Park
at Field by Arthur Fiedler Statue, Storrow Dr, Boston (Charles River Esplanade)

2pm to 4pm -- parkland games
2:30pm -- "Gentle Yoga"
3:30pm -- Community Boating Orientation
3:30pm -- "Family Yoga"
Yeah, "Family-friendly" activities aren't usually my thing, but it seems like a good day to be by the river. It wouldn't hurt to get a little yoga in.

They say, "Bring your own mat if you can."

There will be simlar activities on 7/24, 8/21, and 9/11.

SUN 6/19

Boston Bacon Takedown
at Arts at the Armory, 191 Highland Ave, Somerville (Spring Hill)

It's more than $10, but there will b about 20 bacon dishes to try. Each will want to be the best, so there should be some outlandish treats.

Go early, because one never knows when the pork runs out. It will be crowded, and it will smell awesome.

SUN 6/19

"Salacious Salon" #2: Release Party
at Great Scott, 1222 Comm Ave, Allston
$6 / 18+
3pm to 6pm -- party
5pm -- performance
Readings and performances by: Cherie Van Ella, Lord Byron, Ashley Young, more

You don't have to be a queer feminist to enjoy this magazine release party, but it could help. Truth Serum is hosting the party, and they know how to have a good time. Proceeds will benefit The Femme Show's summer road show.

SUN 6/19

"Daddy's Badass Variety Show"
at Middle East - Upstairs, 472 Mass Ave, Cambridge (Central Sq)
$8 Advance / $10 Day Of Show / 18+

Feat: Asa Brebner & the Fuc#in' Toads, Bonfire Bandit, Dolly Vixenz Burlesque, Brian Gordon, DJ's El Poser & Lotusound

When there's a mix of music, art, burlesque, comedy, etc; there's bound to be something for everyone. On the other hand, it may not be everything for everyone.

Still lots of good stuff for an early start time. Asa Brebner has been making great music since he played with Jonathan Richman & The Modern Lovers; I get the feeling the new band name (Fuc#in' Toads) may mean a new direction. (Or not.) Bonfire Bandit has an interesting sound going on too.

A bunch of art will be on view as well, and body-art airbrushing on hand. I'm not sure how there will be room for an audince, but there will be.

SUN 6/19

Dave Aaronoff & The Protagonists
at Toad, 1912 Mass Ave, Cambridge (Porter Sq)

Dave Aaronoff has also played in killers bands such as The Shods, The Pills, and a little band called The Mighty Mighty Bosstones. In his latest project, he's got a band that includes pedal steel guitar and fiddle.
