FRI 1/6: Art, Comedy, and...

people tangoing at SoWa First Friday

[Wow, this was an anti-climactic post to sit waiting... - rv]

Hey, folks. I didn't see any paying gigs that really moved me. Some free gigs that could be good include: Jess Tardy Band at Bull McCabe's... Luddy Mussy at Toad... Jason Palmer isn't playing this Friday, but there's always some free jazz at Wally's.

Before I get weekend cheapness up: tomorrow is the Annual Moby Dick Marathon at New Bedford Whaling Museum, and Sunday is the annual No Pants! T Ride starting at South Station this year.

--------------------------------------------------------------

FRI 1/6

5pm to 9pm
First Friday Open Studios
at SoWa Arts Bldg, 450 Harrison Ave, Boston (South End)
FREE

When I've gone, there were decent crowds passing through. Several dozen studios with interesting works are always open in the rather large building, and there's bound to be refreshments in a few...

Go tonight or any first Friday of every month. You have the whole year ahead of you.

Maybe you'll see people doing the tango like I did (above).

FRI 1/6

7:30pm to 9:30pm
Anderson Comedy: "The Gas"
at Great Scott, 1222 Comm Ave, Allston
$5 / 18+

Feat: Will Smalley, Tim Vargulish, Langston Kerman, Nate Johnson, Sanjay Soloman, Ryan Shea, Ryan Douglass

On most Fridays, this is a chance to laugh your way into the weekend even if your friends aren't particularly funny.

I personally like seeing comedians in bars/clubs, and it is still my claim that cover to this weekly show and $15 worth of tall boys is a good start to a Friday night.

If you stick around for a couple more drinks, then it's dance party time with The Pill.

Tonight's guest host is Gary Petersen.
