THUR 6/11: Ice Cream, Erotica, Rock

Unfortunately, the annual "Taste of Fort Point Channel" event has been cancelled today, but the Scooper Bowl soldiers on. The crowd was thin on Tuesday, and I expect it still won't be too crowded.

--------------------------------------------------------------

THUR 6/11

Noon to 8pm
Scooper Bowl
at City Hall Plaza, Boston (Govt Center)
$8 / $4 for children ages 3 to 9

Day Three...

All-you-can-eat ice cream, frozen yogurt, sorbet, and/or gelato from Baskin-Robbins, Ben & Jerry's, Breyers, Brigham's Ice Cream, Edy's, Garelick Farms/Gifford's, Häagen-Dazs, HP Hood, Spasso!

Get gluttonous for a good cause. This is a rain or shine event.

THUR 6/11

7:30pm to 9pm
"IXXF2" Pre-Party
at Good Vibrations, 308A Harvard St, Brookline (Coolidge Corner, enter thru the "rear")
FREE

9pm
"IXXF2: The Second Coming"
at Coolidge Corner Theatre, 290 Harvard St, Brookline
$10

It's not quite 'amateur erotica' as the annual program's previous handle suggested ("Amateur Erotic Film Competition"). Anyone and everyone are encouraged to submit "sexy" short films, but the cream of the crop are usually a mix of well-produced shorts and true DIY submissions with clever ideas. If you like arty titillation, edgy porn, or bawdy humor, this should be a fun time.

You should stop by the pre-party at Good Vibrations to get you "in the mood". You'll probably be able to get a "refreshment" while checking out the merch. You might even win a "goodie bag" by giving the "Wheel of Pleasure" a spin -- and I'm pretty sure it's not something you would sit on...

THUR 6/11

10:30pm
The Andrea Gillis Variety Show
at Plough & Stars, 912 Mass. Ave, Cambridge (Central Sq)
FREE-ish

Even if this isn't free, it probably won't be more than $5. While stumbling around the web, one person said they recently paid $7 cover at an Andrea Gillis Plough gig. I was talking to Jim, the guy at Plough & Stars, and he said there's usually no cover on weeknights (which I noticed myself) and around $5 on weekend nights.

Not only do you get Andrea's soultastic vocals that could cut your head off and her top-rocking band, Amy Griffin of The Raging Teens and Darkbuster may show up. Band lineups can be fluid, but my understanding is that local legend Asa Brebner hasn't been the usual guitarist but might be joining the fun tonight. Who knows who else will sit in -- musicians unanimously love Andrea.

Will there be a dancing bear, a comedian, or a juggler? Maybe in the audience...
