SUN 10/3: Fest, Talk, Music, Poker, DJ

It's getting Autumnal, no?

Oh, hey: It's the $5-per-bag deal today at the Boomerangs parking lot sale.

--------------------------------------------------------------

SUN 10/3

Noon to 6pm
Somerville Oktoberfest
outside of Redbones, 55 Chester St, Somerville (Davis Sq)
FREE admission

Feat: The Mad Bavarian Brass Band

When you're this far from Munich, I think it's appropriate to have something modest yet jovial like this. I'm a friend of Harpoon, and it's cool to have a big crowded beerfest.

However I like the idea of bratwurst and beer off of Davis Square with some oom-pah music bobbing along.

Food tents from: Redbones, The Burren, Diva Indian Bistro, Foundry on Elm, Joshua Tree, Mike’s Food & Spirits

SUN 10/3

2pm to 5pm
"Howard Zinn and the Freedom to Write": Panel Discussion
at First Parish Church, 3 Church St, Cambridge (Harvard Sq)
FREE

Howard Zinn was a civil rights hero, and the panel will discuss his contribution to writing and publishing. The Thomas Paine Award is going to be posthumously given to Zinn.

The Vasyl Stus Award will be given to a Burmese writer, so there will be a lot of good-time social justice in the air.

SUN 10/3

4pm
Neon Indian
at The Trolley Barn, about 540 Harrison Ave, Boston (South End)
FREE

As I mentioned a couple days ago, it's some chill music and the promise of potential giveaways.

SUN 10/3

8pm
Texas Hold'em Poker Night
at Johnny D's, 17 Holland St, Somerville (Davis Sq)
FREE / 18+

Hey, it's free chance to play some poker. They play every week, and you might win a prize if you do well enough. You'll have to sign up as a member of the Beantown Poker Tour, but that's free too.

SUN 10/3

10pm to 1am
"Live from London"
at Middlesex Lounge, 315 Mass Ave, Cambridge (Central Sq)
FREE / 21+

Feat: Jamie xx, Fantastic Mr. Fox, Cooly G, Dusk & Blackdown, Mistaker

It's not on the Enormous Room calendar, but I know it's happening here.

One of the guys from The xx has been doing these after-show gigs where he and a bunch of his London friends do DJ sets. Boston's Mistaker will probably be the first guy up.

This place seems to have a line out the door even when the hip quotient isn't this high. Some of you might want to try although you might have something better to do that waiting outside of this place.

I can't believe I have to work today. :( I miss everything. I'm definitely not going to miss Otis Grove with Mr. Lif at Lizard Lounge next weekend - can't wait for that!
