FRI 12/25: Comedy, Film

C'mon... Are you serious? There's always little to do on Christmas (besides the usual stuff). You can eat at a Chinese restaurant, and you can see a movie.

Ho, ho, ho. Happy B-day, Jesus, since it's celebrated today.

FRI 12/25

7:30pm to 9:30pm
"Alana Eisner's Very Jewish Christmas Show".
at Great Scott, 1222 Comm Ave, Allston
FREE / 18+

Feat: Jenny Z, Alex Grubard, Dab Crohn, Mike Pincus, Toby Moriseaunu, Zach Sherwin

Kudos to the folks at Great Scott and the comedians who are coming out and doing a special version of the weekly comedy show. Sure... The comedians are mainly Jewish, and the bar staff are probably a bunch of hipster humanists -- that doesn't matter! Most people lay around and do nothing interesting on the 25th.

People will be funny for free! The drinks are reasonably priced! This is what I call a gift. It could happen on another night of the year, but it's this Friday. This is one of Zach Sherwin's (MC Mr Napkins) last shows before he moves to L.A. too... You don't even need to bring an unwrapped gift or canned food.

FRI 12/25 & SAT 12/26

Midnight
"Die Hard 2: Die Harder"
at Coolidge Corner Theatre, 290 Harvard St, Brookline
$7.75

You may think that all of the "Die Hard" sequels were cheesy regurgitations of the original, but the second film holds up pretty well (and the third one has its moments).

The beauty of watching it this weekend is that they came up with another way of screwing up Christmas for the McClane family. The estranged wife is flying back east to give it another chance, but the entire airport happens to get hijacked when her flight is arriving. The dutiful husband/cop/action hero springs into action and kicks ass again.

I won't say that it's better than the original, but Bruce Willis is having a lot of fun with the part and inhabits the character with more gusto.
